Bases of South Bank being laid at Caracas Meeting

According to Cabezas, the organizing structure and capital contribution are the main bases for the creation of the Bank of the South that will be discussed at the meeting.

The Venezuelan minister added that the meeting participants hope to draw up joint strategies in relation to particularities of the countries which are founders of this bank.

The joint strategies are aimed at preventing those South American countries from being dependent of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and Inter American Development Bank.

Read Government’s response to NDC’s press conference on Energy ...

In our view, Ladies and Gentlemen of the media, the Press Statement that was issued yesterday by the flag bearer of the (NDC) is one that smacks of mischief, designed to dissuade Ghanaians from concentrating on the issues of substance and cooperating with government to bring an end to the current situation. Indeed, the contents of the statement are characteristic of the tradition of a party that is rooted in falsehood, deception and diversionary tactics which the NDC is ironically accusing us of. It is therefore not strange that the pot should be calling the kettle black in this instance.

Mr. Chairman, Ghanaians have known these traits of 'falsehood, deception and diversionary tactics' of the PNDC/NDC for nearly two decades and that is why the good citizens of this peace-loving country have chosen to vote for a truly democratic party, the New Patriotic Party; a party that is committed to truth, fair play and transparency.

Council faces bistro's mounting debt

The Pinole City Council, sitting as the Redevelopment Agency board, will meet in special closed session Monday to discuss the Pear Street Bistro, which is in default on city loans with a balance of more than $400,000.

Mayor Maria Alegria and the rest of the council have come under fire from residents during the past few months to resolve the loan situation. As of March, Bistro owner Gary Wong had not made payments for almost a year-and-a-half on a package of Pinole Redevelopment Agency loans that originally totaled more than a half-million dollars.

Some residents accuse the council of going easy on Wong, who claims three of the five council members as his friends.

As of mid-March, the city had not reported Wong's "default" to any credit agencies, according to City Attorney Ben Reyes.
